The
citizens of Fallbrook hold a long-running love / hate relationship
with the fact the Village - the northern-most township in San Diego -
is one of the county's best kept secrets.
Not being on a major thoroughfare, Fallbrook is one of those
"you can't get there from here" locales.
In order to travel to the Village, the intrepid adventurer has to drive down
a choice of country lanes to arrive at the pot at the end of the rainbow
The
good news? There's no traffic, there's no congestion, the countryside is lush
with a climate supporting legions of groves, nurseries and vineyards.
The beauty of the landscape - and the quality of light shining down on it -
draws artists from across the country. Not to mention, the sea breeze wafts-in
with a moderating influence on all the above. You know, that negative ion thing
The
bad news? Although Village artists produce work that brings tears to the eyes,
and the Art Center At Fallbrook mounts shows patrons walk into exclaiming,
"Oh, my God!,"
and the Village teaching campus - Art Studios Of
Fallbrook -
including a bronze and aluminum foundry,
presents classes by artists at the top of their game,
- not to mention the Village hosts a banner Art Festival season -
. . . visitors are left wondering:
"How Do I Find Fallbrook?"
OK, so here's how to Find
Fallbrook, the Village of earthly
delights,
but do be discreet with whom you share this. Don't let it get around
FROM EL NORTE (LA, The OC)
(for those of you outside California,
El Norte translates as The Norte)
Travel south on I-5 to
Oceanside
Take Highway 76 (east) to Mission Road (Fallbrook)
Turn left at the stop light
Roll down the windows, put on the cruise control,
And drink in the rural sights, sounds & smells
FROM THE OTHER EL NORTE (The
Inland Empire)

Travel south on I-15
Up out of the Temecula Valley
Take the Mission Road / Fallbrook exit
Turn right at the stop sign. Turn right on the curve
Roll down the windows, put on the cruise control,
And drink in the rural sights, sounds & smells
FROM THE SOUTH (San Diego coast)
Travel north on I-5 to
Oceanside
Take Highway 76 (east) to Mission Road (Fallbrook)
Turn left at the stop light
Roll down the windows, put on the cruise control,
And drink in the rural sights, sounds & smells
FROM THE OTHER SOUTH (San Diego
inland)
Travel north on I-15
Take the Highway 76 / Oceanside exit
Turn left at the stop light
Take Highway 76 (west) to Mission Road (Fallbrook)
Turn right at the stop light
Roll down the windows, put on the cruise control,
And drink in the rural sights, sounds & smells
