A Letter From Lanie McMullin

Lanie McMullin,
of Destination Development, Inc.,
Pens a Letter of Appreciation
To The Village

[ Dear Fallbrook ]

D
ear Fallbrook Village Association,

I am overdue in conveying my complete regard for the way in which your Association has taken the recommendations of the Destination Development report and tackled each issue without hesitation

As a long time consultant, I am used to putting my heart, soul, and experience into a report only to see what I considered to be thoughtful recommendations shelved because of lack of leadership, an inability to achieve consensus, or lack of funding

Not so for the "little Village that could." I was blown away on my subsequent visit to see the incredible progress you have made on gateway design, marketing and branding, and facility planning

[ Fallbrook Serving As A Model ]

It serves as a great model and learning experience for me, as a consultant, to analyze your success and pass on components of your process to other communities who strive as Fallbrook does,
to take themselves to a higher level

I've come up with three things to which I attribute your uniqueness:

 1. Great Leadership

 2. Community Tenacity and Love of Place

 3. Incredible Volunteerism

In absolute confidence and good faith, I would urge any partnership agency or jurisdictional agency to invest in your efforts, both financially and with policy decisions which support your unprecedented ability to accomplish great tasks. To this cud, I would be glad to work
individually with any of these agencies to help

[ It Takes A Dream ]

Make the dreams of the Fallbrook Village Association a reality. Everyone wants to be part of a winning team

Very Sincerely,

Lanie McMullin

[Editor's note: Lanie McMullin serves as a consultant for Destination Development, Inc. of Olympia, Washington. Hired by the Fallbrook Village Association and the Fallbrook Chamber of Commerce, DDI came to Fallbrook in the summer of 2004. They "secret shopped" the Village, interviewed local leaders, the man on the street, and visitors to town. DDI held 2 town hall meetings, attended by 100's of Fallbrook citizens, and their work resulted in a Tourism Study  published in the fall of 2004. Copies of the study are available at the Chamber offices. Lanie McMullin also serves as Executive Director of Economic Development & Human Services for the city of Everett, Washington]
