TOURISM PROJECT LEADERS MEETING MARCH 2005
|[ Updating The Project ]| Vince Ross reported that, in the interest of Art Of The Flower - The Festival, he and festival Chair, Marlene Rantanen, met with Farm Bureau representative, Eric Larson. Vince also relayed that Phil Rath, of Supervisor Bill Horn's office, relayed that the Supervisor had approved a generous $5,000 donation for the Festival |[ Gateways ]| Gateways team leader, Jerri Patchett, discussed a trip she and Vince Ross took to commercial signage firm, Motivational Systems, Inc. With approximately $25,000 available from the County to develop a comprehensive way-finding signage plan for visitors to the Village, it was mentioned that MSI is known for its professional expertise in the field. Also, the County would be comfortable working with them [Please click here for expanded coverage of this story] Jerri further reported that the South Mission Road widening project is on schedule, due to begin in May 2005 and take approximately 1 - 1 1/2 years to complete. All are agreed that visitors to this art community should be greeted there by a substantial sculpture Jerri wrapped up by mentioning the 4th of
July Rubber Ducky |[ Marketing ]| Marketing team leader, Don McDougal, reported that the Marketing Committee is waiting for a position statement to determine how to proceed with the branding effort for the Village Don also mention the 2005 Fallbrook
Tourism Guide has been published and is being distributed throughout
Southern California. Merchants in town have reported visitors arriving at
their shops carrying the Guides. |[ Arts Council ]| Mary Perhacs reported the Art Center is receiving positive feedback on the new improvements. The design of the front window is still in flux, plus Jackie Heyneman is going to work with the Center to create a display of potted spring flowers at the Main Street entrance She mentioned that
the flyers for the Wildlife Art Show On the topic of
arts education, it was told that Ineke Michels Mary also
mentioned the Art In Public Places committee will soon be reconvened.
Among its goals will be to present a balance in the types of sculptures
displayed throughout the Village. The Committee will also address adding
to the collection of murals throughout the downtown area. Property owners
willing to have murals painted on their buildings will be sought out, as
will artists to bring the murals and sculptures to reality. Finally, Mary
reported, based on a suggestion by the Art Center's |[ Fallbrook Merchants ]| Merchants
team leaders Budd & Pat Sutliff reported attending a Design Review
meeting with Chair, Eileen Delaney. Issues discussed were downtown signage
and that present ordinances are too complex. It was mentioned that County representative, Ivan Holler, would be at the next Design Review meeting. It was suggested to package together some of the coming signage needs and ask for fee-eliminating waivers Finally, it was reported that following
the workshop with tourism consultant, Lanie McMullin, that Pat distributed |[ Chamber of Commerce ]| Chamber
representative, Wes Peet, reported that considering the Tourism Project is
a joint effort between the Fallbrook Village Association and the Fallbrook
Chamber of Commerce, that plans are being made for the Boards of the 2
organizations to sit down together On the subject of placing information kiosks around town for the benefit of visitors, Wes said he is working with architect, Ron Wylie, on designing a portable model, whose location can be moved as needed Wes related that the Chamber is considering a updated to its logo, but will wait to see the outcome of the Tourism Project's branding of Fallbrook.
