FALLBROOK TOURISM
AND THE RELATIONSHIP WITH
THE COUNTY OF SAN DIEGO

by
Vince Ross

|[ Partnering  ]|

When it comes to Re-Vitalization and tourism in Fallbrook, The County of San Diego serves as a major partner

A current example of this all- important relationship is the following list of projects involving County participation and approval

This list of requests was submitted to Supervisor Bill Horn,
and his staff, in December, 2004:

  1. The remote parking policy connected to the new Village zoning. This item was left undone when the new zoning was completed in February, 2004

  2. Traffic calming in areas such as the historical Heart of the Village shopping district

  3. Welcoming signs at the gateways to Fallbrook, plus further development of the community's character, such as the continued planting of trees at the entrance to, and within, the Village

  4. The creation of Art Festivals. Also, county permits to close streets for the Festivals

  5. The further development of visitor attractions, such as
the Art Studios of Fallbrook, and the Artworks of Fallbrook
    properties on Alvarado Street

  6. Obtaining County use permits for downtown hotels,
    and Bed & Breakfast inns

  7. Flood control, environmental clearances, and linear park improvements on the County-owned Pico Promenade

  8. An upgrade of the community parking lot behind
The Art Center At Fallbrook, in order to support special events
    and the coming new library

  9. Consideration of forming a Re-Development District.
Re-Development would provide significant funding for some of the
more expensive infrastructure projects throughout the Town Center

|[ Forging Ahead  ]|

The Fallbrook Village Association,
and the FVA's Big Picture Committee,
have been working on these projects for the past 2 years.
They will continue to expand on these efforts in 2005

[Editor's Note: Vince Ross is the President of the Fallbrook Village Association, the Executive Director of the Fallbrook Tourism Project, serves as a Board member of the Fallbrook Beautification Alliance, and has been Vice Chair of the Fallbrook Revitalization Council
for over 10 years. Vince has also served as Vice Chair of the
Fallbrook Land Conservancy since it was founded]
