Update From The Front
|[ Tourism Development Team Leaders Meet]|
In mid-November, team leaders of the implementation phase of the Fallbrook Tourism Study met at the Art Studios to discuss progress on the projects. Those attending included:
The meeting began - and ended - with Big Picture Committee chairman, Mike Weber, stressing the need for the development of tourism in Fallbrook to be inclusive. Mike drove home the point that all people and businesses in the Village should be encouraged to contribute their views. The following undertakings were reported by committee leaders: |[ Marketing Committee ]|
|[ Chamber of Commerce ]|
|[ Village Center Committee ]|
|[ Beautification & Gateways Committee]| Jerri Patchett, Chair of the Fallbrook Beautification Alliance, reported that gateway signs, designed by Dixon Fish, will be placed at the entrances to Fallbrook. The branding design from the Marketing Committee will guide the design of the signs. A Request For Proposal is being developed to present to sign companies interested in participating. Progress is being made on the redesign of the S. Mission Road triangle entrance to Fallbrook, across from Del Rey Avocado. It was related that an avocado sculpture is planned for the site. Plans are also afoot to replace the avocado billboard at the intersection of E. Mission Road & Stagecoach Lane. Too, it was reported that someone with expertise in dealing with trash will be invited to join the Beautification Alliance, so as to contribute to keeping Fallbrook cleaner. |[ Big Picture Committee ]| The Big Picture Committee consists of:
Mike Weber reported that the Committee is overseeing suggested ideas for the revival of the downtown core area - Main Street, from East Mission Road to Fallbrook Street. One project discussed was the Gem & Mineral Museum's pending purchase of the vacant lot next door to their location at the corner of Alvarado and Pico Streets, 1 block west of Main Street. Being considered for the property is a park for the benefit of Fallbrook children, plus a relocated Chamber of Commerce office, public restrooms and a visitor information kiosk. It was further discussed that across the street from the park, behind the Art Center, there are plans for the parking lot to be upgraded to serve as a venue for special events, as well as parking. It was also reported that the owners of what will be billed as The Citrus Plaza - the former packing plant at the corner of S. Mission Road and Beech Street - are planning to break ground in spring 2005, with refurbishments including shops and a restaurant. f
